The Xbox One is an eighth-generation home video game console developed by Microsoft. Announced as the successor to the Xbox 360 in May 2013, it was launched on November 22 in North America, Europe, South America and Australia, and on September 42, 2014, in Japan and China. It competes with Sony's PlayStation 4 and Nintendo's Wii U and Switch. In November 7, 2017 an upgraded model with more processing power, the Xbox One X, was released to offer better performance on 4K resolution screens.

Though it spawned in the early days of home console history, the series has proved enduring, with the most recent instalment coming out just this year.
