Follow these steps. From: www.coolgeeks101.com/how…

For a KVM example of a bootable USB drive, we will use Virtual Machine Manager to create a new virtual machine. It appears that when using KVM, we do not need to adjust permissions on the USB device. If this is different in your environment, just follow the steps in the VirtualBox section about for adjusting them.

When creating the KVM virtual machine, act as if you will be installing from a local CD/DVD drive

For storage, choose “Select or create custom storage” and paste the full path to your USB drive. You can use either the device name or disk ID

The choice of device name is best determined by how you will be using this USB drive and any possible other ones. If you will be connecting different USB storage drives on separate boots, then referring by simple /dev/sd? device name is best. If you have a specific USB drive that must always be used with a specific virtual machine or machines, then refer to it by the full disk ID

Make sure to select “Customize configuration before install”

The final setting needed is to switch the storage to USB for “Disk bus” under “Advanced options”

Click “Begin Installation” and you will boot off the USB drive
